The South American Forest Awareness Journey (SAFAJ) is intended to be a replicate of the Colombian Ecosystems Awareness Project, which has been successfully implemented in 16 schools at 10 different Colombian departments. The objective is to create awareness among our future generations about the function, importance and threats of forest ecosystems. This project involves the local youth and teachers from local public schools in Spanish speaking S. American countries that lack proper environmental education and that are located in rural areas close to threatened and fragile forest ecosystems.

An ecologist and lecturer with more than twelve (12) years of experience working on environmental education and ecosystem conservation will give comprehensive lectures at the schools visited on the ecological function, basic biology, anthropogenic uses, importance, threats and ecosystem services of trees and forests, followed by a complimentary practical forest restoration activity at the school grounds.

TierrAmar plans to visit a minimum of 60 schools during the journey. If in each school the activity is executed with a minimum estimate of 50 students, SAFAJ would positively impact 3,000 students and 60 school teachers.
